SPJ announces 2023 campus chapter award finalists and regional program honorees

INDIANAPOLIS – The Society of Professional Journalists is delighted to announce a select group of campus chapters that are being honored for their work in advancing the Society’s principles, mission as well as the journalism profession itself.
Annually, SPJ’s 12 regional coordinators select campus chapters and programs in their respective region that have shown overall excellence. These winners will compete for the Outstanding Campus Chapter and Campus Program of the Year awards.
The Outstanding Campus Chapter finalists are: William Paterson University from Region 1, University of Central Florida from Region 3, Ohio University from Region 4, Texas A&M University-San Antonio from Region 8, University of La Verne from Region 11 and University of Arkansas from Region 12.
The Campus Program of the Year Regional Honorees are:
Region 1: Pennsylvania State University for a trip to Pittsburgh to visit KDKA-TV and the Pittsburgh Steelers
Region 2: Georgetown University for The Public Relations and Corporate Communications Social Network and the Integrated Marketing Communications Network
Region 3: University of Central Florida for Intern Pursuit, an internship fair
Region 4: Ohio University for its breaking news simulation
Region 5: University of Kentucky for its programs on ethics, freedom of information and open government
Region 7: University of Missouri for its student bootcamp
Region 11: Sacramento State University for its open mic night
Region 12: Arkansas Tech University for its partnership with Dardanelle High School
Winners and honorees will be recognized at the Collegiate Excellence Awards at SPJ23 Journalism Convention in Las Vegas, Sept. 29.
SPJ promotes the free flow of information vital to informing citizens; works to inspire and educate the next generation of journalists; and fights to protect First Amendment guarantees of freedom of speech and press.
