Winner: Michael P. Ramirez, Investor’s Business Daily

Jim Poyser

I truly believe in the power of the visual medium,” says Michael Ramirez, cartoonist for Investor’s Business Daily. “People love cartoons. If you do it properly, editorial cartoons can have a significant impact on the political dialogue.

“You could say I am trying to save the world from itself. The editorial cartoon can be a lethal weapon of mass destruction for those politicians who violate their commitment to the people.

“I always joke that I have the best gag writers in the business working for me: politicians.”

Judges said Ramirez’s entries “did a masterful job of delivering the original and engaging concepts through imagery that was both artistic and easy to understand. As all editorial cartoons should, his delivered powerful messages, some of which made you laugh, some of which made you cry, and all of which made you think.”
