“We tell the truth, even when it is difficult. We tell the truth, even when the subject hits close to home.” – The Denver Newspaper Guild, in a letter to its readers regarding the resignation of Editorial Page Editor Chuck Plunkett.

WHAT'S HAPPENING

Three top figures at The Denver Post, including its former owner, resigned Friday amid budget and staff cuts made by the newspaper’s hedge fund owners. Read more about those who stepped down.

+ The most visible battle over local news is taking place in Denver.

Tronc media company agreed Sunday to recognize unions to represent journalists in negotiations at its Chicago-area publications, including the Chicago Tribune. Earlier this year, Tronc was defeated in a federally overseen labor vote at The Los Angeles Times.

Former Miami Herald Editor Don Bohning’s  ties to the CIA have been confirmed in recently declassified JFK documents. A June 1968 document mentions that Bohning had certain CIA approvals so he could be “a confidential informant with natural access to information about news companies and personalities.” Yet many questions are still left unanswered.
